FRENCH TROOP'S NEARING THE CITY. (Received April 8, midnight.) LONDON, April 7. • ■ Paris report* state that French troops aro marching on Essen, which will bo occupied to-day. ITALIAN PRESS COMMENT. POWERS AND THE PEACE CONFERENCE. /Received April 8, 10.50 p.m.) ROME, April _7. The Italian newspapers sarcastically comment on the- Ruhr position, stating that whenever superior particular interests present themselves, each Power acts according to its own particular views, without reference to the Peace Conference. Britain did so act in Constantinople, France in Ruhr and Jugo-Slavia ait Klagenfurt. Italy alone does not dare to act without the authority of ithe Conference. THE GERMAN GOVERNMENT. DIFFICULTIES MAY BE INTENSIFIED. (Received April 8, 9.25 p.m.) BERLIN, April 7. The French advance has intensified the Government’s 1 difficulties. The trades unions have submitted a series of new and peremptory demands, and they also demand the punishment and dismissal of many Beichswahr officers who were guilty of the ill-treatment of non-commissioned officers and men during the Kapp revolt. It is reported that numerous surnmarv executions of Spartacist prison, era in the Ruhr region are arousing the bitterest passions on both sides.
