DEPARTMENTAL THEFTS
RAILWAY EMPLOYEES CHARGED/ At : the Christchurch 'Magistrate’s Court, says a Press Association telegram, Albert William Styles and Ernest Edward Ford, railway employees, pleaded guilty to charges of stealing goods belonging to the New Zealand Rail« ay Department. Tho magistrate said that thefts of this kind were very prevalent, and ho was not inclined to deal with the cases summarily. Railway employees occupied positions of trust, and it was in the interest of the community that only honest men should be employed. After hearing counsel, who gave the accused excellent characters, the magistrate said that on this occasion he would take the cases. Sentences would be deferred for a. week, and bail would be allowed.
