PARALYSIS IN HORSES
OUTBREAK IN RANGIORA. A form of paralysis has appeared amongst horses in the Rangiora district. So far, the outbreak is very limited, but fears are entertained that, unless precautions are taken by owners of horses, the disease will spread. Two years ago an outbreak occurred in the district, making its appearance about 10 days after a spell of rain. Somewhat similar circumstances mark the present outbreak. The symptoms closely approximate to those of ordinary paralysis. The disease is not infectious in the usual way, but horses grazing in the same paddock.as an animal which had contracted the malady are extremely liable to become affected. In any case, when the disease has mada its appearance in a district, horses should be taken off old pasture and put on to new grass.
