BRITISH GOVERNMENT'S INTENTIONS. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, March 20. Mr Bonar Law, speaking at Worthing. asserted that the Government hud done nothing to forfeit the country's confidence. It deserved to bo condemned if it failed with the housing scheme within a reasonable time. It was hoped to complete a hundred thou, sand houses hy the end of the year. The Government appreciated the necessity for developing the agricultural resources, GAOL AS A HOME. LONDON, March 20. Over two thousand Chelmsford people have asked the Town Council, owing to the scarcity of houses, to provide lodgings in the county gaol, which is at present empty. The council has requested the Home Office to allot cells for two hundred single men. and to convert other space into flats. The Homo Office is favourable, hut will not permit structural alterations, as the building is liable to revert to its original purpose.
