AN INDECENT PUBLICATION
SELLING BARRED BOOK. RAILWAY NEWSVENDOR CONVICTED. A conviction was entered against Anthony Swinbum, a newsvendor on railway trains, by Mr El Page, S.M., at the Police Court yesterday, for having sold an indecent document: —a copy of a so-called sporting annual published in England—to Constable John Potter, of Whangamqmona, while the latter was travelling in the Wel-lington-New Plymouth express. When the evidence was taken, it was shown that the accused produced the book from his pocket and solicited custom by stating: “This may interest you. It is barred, but I sell a lob of them.” In giving his the magistrate said he had examined the book and was quite satisfied that it was indecent. The accused wouM be fined £lO, with £1 19s costs, or in default one month's imprisonment.
