WATERSIDE LABOUR

SETTLEMENT ARRIVED AT. INCREASED WAGES. The conference between employers of waterside ’ labour and the representatives of tho federated unions concluded yesterday. A “New Zealand Times” representative was officially advised that a settlement was arrived at subject to the ratification by the various unions and the employers concerned. Tile agreement provides for an increase in wages based upon the increase in the cost of living since .the last agreement was made, but further information in this connection is not available pending- tho confirmation of the agreement. The conference extended over a fortnight and was presided over bv Air J. G. Harkness, chairman of the Wellington Harbour Board. At the conclusion of the conference a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Harkness was proposed and carried by acclamation.
