SOARING PRICE OF HATS
A further puzzle is added to thi ulothing problem in tho soaring prict of hats, a line of which, the American Stetson, has now reached a price which in pre-war days would have bought a first-class auit. At tho beginning of the week the popular velour leapt from £4 10s to £6 6s, and the latest prognostication .from tho limited numlber of dealers in this expensive top piece is that the next ahipment will be quoted at a price very little short of double figures. The plain felt Stetson is now quoted at a stifl figure, and is likely to soar again in the near future. Despite the phenoraetial price, retailers continue to finrf purchasers, but there is evidence that ivhen tho further increase is efleoted, other competitors in the velour market will intervene, and it is expected that English manufacturers will oppose th« Amoricaa monopoly of this particular line.
