Replying in tho HouseJ_of Commons to a series of questions irTreferenep to the recent riots in Fiji, Colonel Amery stated that 128 men and 14 women had been convicted for riotous behaviour, and 56 were en remand on -.charges of wrecking bridges... and. other- -offences. :..An armed guard of .fifty men was sent from New Zealand to-assist in the maintenance ofj.ordcJ< but did not fire on anybody or eauso any casualties. Tho Governor had appointed a Commission to investigate the question of the cost of living and the wages of .the Indians.
