The men on the road had great chances of gauging the minds of tho people. They were all smart men of business or they would not be on the road." , Sir William said that thevo wore not many subjects which it was proposed should he submitted to the Government, but any that were sent on would receive careful consideration. - He thought it likely that the commercial travellers could give sounder advice than the heads of some firms could because the latter only saw things through ■business spectacles, while the outlook of the traveller was wider. He had great pleasure in declaring the conference open. Mr Herries was cordially thanked for having opened the conference. PROCEEDINGS- AT CONFERENCE. INSURANCE SCHEME;.
