Committees will be drawn up in connection with various duties, including street decorations, illuminations, entertainments, etc. THE PETONE RECEPTION INITIAL ARRANGEMENTS. The initial arrangements in 'connection with the proposed pageant of the landing of the first settlors on Petone beach, to be enacted before the Prince of Wales, were discussed at a meeting of Petone and ' Hutt residents, at which committees were set up tc carry out the necessary organisation works. The Early Settlers’ Association will take a prominent part in the preparations, and it is hoped to also obtain the services of local natives to take part in tho function. The promoters of the scheme propose that tho his-toric-landing ho reproduced as faithfully as possible, and realise that there must be no “tomfoolery,” and that the reception must be carried out in a Befitting manner. It was decided that the Early Settlors’ Association should carry out the entire programme leading up to the landing. The Lower Hutt Borough Council and the Hutt County Council are to be asked to appoint delegatee to the various committees that have been set up. It has been suggested that the local bodies concerned should contribute the funds to finance the project on a population basis, which, with a Government subsidy, should afford ample provision toward the necessary expenditure.
