THE BREAD PRICES
GOVERNMENT PROPOSALS ACCEPTED. TWO-POUND LOAF sid. OVER COUNTER, 6>d DELIVERED. The Prime Minister, interviewed by a “Times” representative yesterday stated that the Dominion representatives of the master bakers had had a further conference with the Board of Trade that morning, and the bakers had agreed to the proposals of the Government —namely, (1) 'that the price of the 21b-loaf sold over the counter was to be increased by 4d, and bread delivered was to be increased by ifd over the prices ruling in February last; and (2) that _ a comprehensive statement showing ift detail the cost of Manufacture of bread and the returns made from its sale -s to be supplied monthly by each master l aker to the Board of Trade, and if, after examination of these statements, it is shown that the prices fixed ir? eot equitable, the position will .be reconsidered bv the Government. The new prices—bread s-.ld over the counter. sjd per 21b loaf ; bread delivered,' wholesale 6d, less 2* per cent.; bread delivered to householders, 6Jd —will operate throughout the Dominion as from Saturday next, 13th instant, and are general in; their application. .
