ADRIATIC DEADLOCK

WILSON’S REPLY TO ALLIES ITALY EMBARRASSED BY D’ANNUNZIO’S METHODS. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received February 2-1, 10.15 p.m.) NEW YORK, February 24. The “Now York Times” Washington correspondent understands that President Wilson’s reply to the Allies’ Adriatic Note will be dispatched tonight, and will probably be handed to the Supreme Council on February 25th. It is said there are several Italian leaders who will be willing to accept the December plan for the settlement of the Adriatic question. They agree with France, Britain and the United States, but the Italian Government was embarrassed by D’Annunzio’s action, the strong propaganda in Italy, and his annexation of Fiumo. Thus the Government could not accept tho December agreement. It is predicted that President Wilson’s Note makes another effort to convince the Italian Government and people that a just and wise settlement can only bo made on the basis of tho December plan.
