EDUCATION AND RELIGION
A PRINCIPAL RESIGNS. DEPUTATION "tcT PRESBYTERY. It is stated that the course of th<f Presbyterian Church’s educational policy is not running smoothly. Recently the principal of Queen Margaret's College, in Wellington, resigned owing to alleged petty tryanny as the result of her decision to worship at the nearest church, _ rather than at another. The resignation was. accepted, and an inquiry into the allegations refused. The sequel came before the Wellington Presbytery last night, when a deputation from- St. Andrew’s Church drew attention to tho withdrawal of the senior boarders last Sunday morning from their usual place of worship. They contended that this was duo to tlio influence exerted upon the now principal hy certain members of the College Board. While it has been held that tho principal is quite free in regard to the moral and religious welfare of tlio hoarders, they stated to the Presbytery that this freedom had been inconsiderately used, and that there was no good or cogent reason why Miss Jobson’s decision to worship at St. Andrew’s should now ho interfered with. They asked for the protection of their interests by the Presbytery, and also applied' for guidance. The question was postponed till next meeting.
