WATERSIDE CONFERENCE

AT WELLINGTON NEXT WEEK. Mr James Roberts, secretary of the Waterside Workers’ Federation, has received a communication from the employers of waterside labour arranging for a national conference to be held at Wellington on March 4th, to consider the recent demands submitted by the Federation for a. new agreement. The old agreement expired last December 3Tst. It' had a currency of two years, during which period' the terms. had been amended on one occasion in order to raise the hourly wages by 2d for ordinary time and 3d for overtime.

All the waterside unions in New Zealand will be represented at the conference. Between 20 and 25 delegates will come to Wellington and meet in the Federation rooms. Manners street, next’ Wednesday, to appoint _ spokesmen. Messrs L. Glover, president of the Federation, and James Robert®, secretary, will, of course, bo present at the conference. The Wellington Union will be represented by Messrs J. G. Bruce (secretary!, J. Laurenscn (assistant secretary). J. O’Brien. E. E. Cnnham, T. Brindle, J. W. Trim, and T. But ridge.
