NEW ZEALAND FRUIT
RECORD CONSIGNMENT FOR ENGLAND. The fact that the export of fruit from New" Zealand, which has been suspended since 1914, is to be resumed was referred to by the assistant-direc-tor of horticulture, Mr J. A. Campbell. at the gathering of fruitgrowers. “The position of the industry in regard to export is one that will be determined very largely this year/ said Mr Campbell. “The department has arranged for , space for about 60,• eases on the steamers for England, and for 30,000 cases for America. We are confident that the control of space will be more satisfactory than the past methods. My advice states that the Port Caroline will load 16,000 cases of fruit at Wellington for England on March 16th. It has been decided that the fruit must, be in cool store in Wellington by March i ar . ' a' l "’ wo h’avo arranged to use one or two chambers of the Harbour Boards cheese store. Mr Campbell added that the fruit would arrive in England when the market was "'bare. The Port Caroline’s shipment will be by far the largest yet sent to England from Now Zealand.
