POET CHALMERS FROM NEW YORK.

.The C, and.D. liner Port Chalmers arrived at Auckland from New York on Sunday .evening, and berthed at the Queen's wharf on Monday morning. The vessel left New York on January 10th, arriving- at Panama on the 27th. Bha left the canal on the 28th, and had an excellent voyage across the Pacific. The vessel brought some 800 tons of general cargo, including cars, for Auckland, -together with cargo for Wellington, South Island ports, Melbourne, aid Sydney. Captain P. J. Eeynolds has the following officers; —Chief, H. H. fiorsewill; second officer, W. B. Jones; third officer, V. B. Collins; fourth officer, F. S.' Pattinson; first engineer, J. Young; second"engineer, J. Matheso nf, ■third engineer,--J. Hennessey; chief refrigerating engineer, B. Thomasson; wireless operators, Warren and Bonnett. The vessel wa« to leave Auckland last evening for Wellington. ; KENT AT AUCKLAND. The F. and S. liner Kent arrived at Auckland from New- York on Sunday afternoon, and, berthed at the Queen's wharf. The vessel experienced bad Weather on her way across the Atlantic from Avonmouth to New York, running into heavy seas. She coaled at Sydney, Cape Breton Island, at which port she natrowly escaped being frozen in. She left New York-on January 20th, and left Panama on January 28th, an hour earlier than the KPort-Qlialmere, which vessel they sap- leaving the canal. The Kent has some 1100 tons of general American cargo for Auckland, and greater quantities for the Australian ports, to which she' goes after leaving Wellington. Captain A. H. The Blackball' Co.’s steamer Ngakuta is to leave Bluft to-day with produce tor Wellington. She will call at Lyttoton en route to discharge timber, and should reach Wellington about Sunday. : The' Ngahero, which is under repair on- the-'Wellington patent slip, wili rot be ready tor sea until about March J3th or 14th. , __ The Ngatoro was to leave New Plymouth last night for Greymouth. Instead of loading for Lyttelton the vessel is to load for- Wellington. She is expected here on Monday next, and will discharge her coal into tho bunkers of the Northumberland and tho Euapehu. The Ngatoro’s proposed trip to the Chatham Islands has been postponed until her next trip to Greymouth, from whioh port she will proceed to Lyttelton and thence to the Chathams, ' WATEESIDEES’ MEETING. The postponed, "stop-work" monthly 'meeting of the, Wellington Waterside Workers’ Union was held yesterday morning in"the Harbour Board X store. Mr L. The following motion was passed concerning the Fijian labour trouble: — “That this meeting of the Wellington Waterside Workers’ Union enters a most emphatic protest against the action of tho New Zealand Government in sending an armed force to Fiji, obviously for tho purpose of intimidating the workers on strike there; further, this meeting draws the attention of the people of this Dominion to the grave dangers likely to arise from using defence forces in connection with strikes.” It was decided to subsidise the Watersiders’ Band over and above tho public contributions made towards the proposed trip to the Dunedin contest. The meeting, which commenced at 8 a.m., terminated at noon. NEW ZEALAND SHIPPING CO. The New Zealand Shipping Co. advise that tho Hororata is to leave Home about the middle of April with cargo for Fremantle, Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney. The vessel will also bring Australians’ families. F'rom Australia she will come to New Zealand to load. Tho Whakutr.no arrived at Sydney on last Saturday from Melbourne. The Ruapehu left Port Chalmers last evening for Lyttelton and Wellington to complete Homeward loading. The vessel is due hero on Tuesday or Wednesday next. She is to sail from Wellington for Southampton and London via ports on March oth. The Kaikoura, now completing her Homeward loading at Auckland, is fixed to sail from that port at daybreak on Sunday for Southampton and London via Panama.
