OCEAN YACHT RACE

AN INTERESTING ACCOUNT. Tho following account of tho Evans Bay Yacht and Motor-boat Club’s ocean yacht raoc. held during tho week-end, was given fo the “New Zealand Times'’ : “Left Evans Day, 2.30 p.m. Wind, fresh south-east. UIT Soatoun Waitangi split her mainsail and anchored to repair. Yachts passed Western Lodge in following order:—Wanderer, Romp. Seabird, Galatea. Fresh south-east across Straits set up choppy sea. Heavy tide sot up some of the yachts well to north on nm across. The night being very dark, difficult to pick up cntjpucc. Yachts arrived Ocean ■ Bay in following order; Waiidcror 10 p.m., Galaiea 10.35 p.m., Waitangi 10.58 p.m.. Romp 11.30 p.m. Seabird, being becalmed outside, did not get in until 3 a.m. Anchored for night and spent merry evening. Rev. Crump, director of Ocean Bay school, kindly supplied visitors with milk all round, which was very much appreciated. Left Ocean Bay 9 a.m Sunday. Winl, fresh southerly; carrying lower suit of canvas. Galatea being only one carrying topsail. Almost immediately yachts clearing heads Galatea took in her topsail. Made merry pace until 11 a.m. General order heave-to r.nd reef down, with exception of Seabird, carrying full rag. Breeze at this time considerably freshened, which set up a very choppy noa. Waitangi again split Uor mainsail off Rarori Bock, and completed journey under jib and trysail. Finishing with adjustments of handicaps in following order; Galatea 1, Romp 2, Wanderer 3. Mr Jackson’s auxiliary yacht Psyche acted as mark boat.”
