The Mayor of Dunedin (Mr W. Begg) has (been notified that, as the Governor-General’s term of office is drawing to a close, their Excellencies propose to take leave of the people of Timaru, and Dunedin. Their Excellencies will arrive in Dunedin on March 10th, and will be tho guests of Dr. and Mrs Lindo Ferguson until March 13th, when they will leave for Wellington. They will he accorded a civic farewell in the southern city.

Dunedin is losing Madame Marie Power, who proposes shortly to go to Australia. For many years Madame Power has been a favourite contralto in all the ‘ larger cities of" New Zealand. Her musical friends in Dunedin have decided to tender a complimentary farewell in a week or eo.

Mr E. K. Long, the editor of tho Australasian column in the Loudon “limes,” is visiting the chief centres in Australia, and in duo season will come to New Zealand. His purpose is to arrange for better representation of Dominiou nows in the columns of the “Times.’'

Mr Roy Fuller, manager of His Ma* josty’a Theatre, is at present in Christchurch relieving Sir Walter Helsden, manager of tho Christchurch Opera House. Tho latter is managing the Princess Theatre, Dunedin, during tho absence through illness of Mr John Hamer.

On account of illness Mir T. Ballinger was granted leave of absence from tho meeting of the Wellington Technical College Board at a meeting hold Inst evening, and on tho motion of the chairman (Mr 0. Frost) it was decided to write to Mr Ballinger expressing tho hope that he would speedily recover from his illness.

Mr H. W. Kelly, manager of the Now Zealand Insurance Company at Wanganui, has been promoted to tho charge of the Dunedin branch in succession to Mr H. M. Didsbnry, and Mr N. W. Nelson, who was lately’relieving at Singapore,- will fill tho vacancy at Wanganui. Mr E. V. Law, lately acting-manager at Gisborne, has been appointed manager there.

F. J. Stewart, assistant clerk to the Auckland Magistrate’s Court (says a Press Association telegram received last night), who has been connected with tho Auckland courts for nearly thirty years, died to-day. Members of bench, bar, and police, numbering over one hundred, assembled at court, when glowing tributes were paid to the deceased. He leaves a widow and young family.
