POLICE COURT NEWS
A BREACH OF TRUST ONE MONTH'S IMPRISONMENT ORDERED. A sentence of one 'month's imprisonment -with hard labour, was imposed on a voung man, Stafford Northooltit (Mr H."o'Leary), by Mr E. Pago, S.M. at the Police Court yesterday on a charge that he stole ono dozen knives, a i shawl, and a soup tureen, of a total value of 59s 63, the property of the Wellington Harbour Board. It was stated that the accused, who was employed by the Harbour Board as a 6toreman, appropriated the articles from ti shed on the King's wharf. The magistrate said a fine would not meet the circumstances. Accused had abused a trust, and he would be punished accordingly. ARISING OUT OF DRINK. A fine of £1 was imposed on William Denis Sloans on each of five charges of breaking at prohibition order, and in addition he was ordered to pay 17s 6d medical expenses. He was convicted and discharged for drunkenness. Alfred John -J'ohansen was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called on within twelve months for three breaches of a prohibition order, and for inebriacy he was convicted and discharged. On charges of drunkenness, six first offenders were dealt with. Alexander Knowles, who had previously been convicted, was fined 10a or in default forty-eight hours' imprisonment, and John Shine was mulcted 5s for a fourth offence, and -was also ordered to pay £1 Is medical expenses. MAINTENANCE OASES. William Lewis was ordered to pay 15s per week towards tho support of his Trife, Alice Lewis, but' an application by the latter for a separation order was refused. The defendant is already paying 30s per week for the support of three children, who are inmates of a convent at the Upper Hutt. Patrick J. Ellison was ordered to pay 10s per week towards tho maintenance of his son at tho Weraroa Training Farm. _^^^^^^
