LOWER HUTT BOROUGH
MEETING OF COUNCIL. A meeting of the Lower Hutt Borougbf Council wes held last night, the Mayor (Mr E. P. Bishworth) presiding. There were also present: Messrs W. Meldrum, B. J. Guiness, A. J. West. A. J. Hobba, W. B. Gardy„ and W. T. Cotton. Tho district engineer to the Publio Works Department forwarded a plan and: specifications of a bridge to be erected over the Waiwetu river at the HallJones settlement. Tlie qusstion of altering the site of the bridge was referred to thhe borough engineer for a report. It was reported that the pressure of gas supplied by Petone during tho* last month had been, on the whole, _veryi satisfactory; the lowest pressure register-, ed at Wakefield street during the maximum hours of ,the month. being 3.95 inches. Seven new gas service conneo. tions had been made and five fresh ap-\ plications for connection had been lodged. ' ...■••
The engineer reported that the inain road had been repaired from boundary, to boundary: the Wainui Hill had been repaired and the water-tables and culverts cleared; the footpaths in Phaxazyn Btreet, Herbert street, Bridge street and William street have been cleared; and the footpaths on the- Western Hutt road, Victoria street, and the eastern end ot Waterloo road were being attended to. The Invereargill Borough Council wrote asking the council to support a. resolution bringing under the notice of the Government the urgent necessity of providing safeguards in respect of levol railway crossings.—It was decided ta communicate with, the member repre» senting the electorate in Parliament or. the' matter. # .
