OCEAN RACE WON BY WANDERER. The Port Nicholson Yacht Club’s annual ocean race held on Saturday and yesterday was favoured by unusually fine weather, and resulted in a comfortable win. by Messrs Hadfield and Clark’s Wanderer, with Messrs Smith and Rowell’s Waitangi second. The yachts got away to a flying start from the Clyde quay wharf at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The course lay across to Guard’s bank. Port Underwood, where Mr George Jackson's motor yacht Psyche II acted as mark boat, with Mr Gendall as timekeeper. The yachts anchored for the night and started on the return passage at 8 a.m. yesterday, finishing opposite the Clyde quay whart. The total distance \s about eighty miles. On the run across Cook Strait on Saturday and on the return trip yesterday the yachts had a light northerly breeae, clear sky and calm sea.

The yachts arrived at Port Underwood as follows:—Waitangi. scratch, 8.55 p.m.; Uarangf, 70min, lllir 7min SOseo; Wanderer, 140 min. 9hr; Ailsa, ISOmin, llhr 2lmin 30sec; Galatea, 190 min, llhr SOmin; lolanthe, 2iomiu. 12.10 a.m. Sander, On the run home the times occupied were— Wanderer (Hadfteld and ' Clark), Shr 18min 15sec, first; Waitangi (Smith and Bussell), Shr Imin 30sec, second; Marangi (B. Clark), 3hr 2min 2-ssec; Ailsa (Ham. mil Bkos), S)hr SOmin 20sec; Galatea (Scott and Jordan;, Shr Sftmin sseo. The lolantho G. McLean) did not go to the finishing line being outdistanced.
