TERRIFIC CYCLONE
DAMAGE IN NORTH QUENSLAND.
By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright BRISBANE, February 7. The latest advices from the North state that Cairns received the ‘ full force of the cyclone from Monday night till Tuesday morning. During the night most of the residences on tho waterfront were unroofed. The gale readied a. velocity of a. hundred miles 9*i, hour. Many gallant rescues were made by the police and ambulance workers. The damage in Oaims is now estimated at £39,000. News from the back country describes the positron as more serious than was at that anticipated. Tho town of Mount Molloy was almost totally destroyed, and hardwood forests were levelled to tho ground. Many other towns report partial destruction. So far only one death is reported, a scrub-feller having beer drowned in tho Russell river.
