DISEASE. LESS SEVERE THAN IN 1918.

rsr. PRESS ASSOCIATION. , CHRISTCHURCH, February 7. Two middle-aged men died of pneumonic influenza in Chriutchumh Hospital. Each had been an inmate for (css than a week and both were in a serious condition when admitted. To-day there arc five cases of severe and five of milder influenza in the hospital. A reporter who approached Dr. 3V. Fox, medical superintendent of the Christchurch Hospital, to-day was informed that the cases being received at that institution were of tho same typo us those dealt with in the epidemic of November, 1918. There are, however, many grades of that typo, tind generally the disease is not so severe in its nature this time.

DUNEDIN OASES. MAJORITY OF MILD TYPE. DUNEDIN, February 8. In regard to influenza, very few notifications have been received, during the week-end, but those .received show that the outbreak is still of a mild type. To-day, pal'ieuts in the Dunedin Hospital, suffering from influenza, number -12, of whom 38 wore classed as severe (non-pneumonic) and four pneumonic. The latter are sporadic cases of the type experienced in the army some two or three year prior to the outbreak of pneumonic influenza in New Zealand in 1918. OASES ON STEAMER JOHN. TUMARU, February 7. • In connection with the Press Association message from Wanganui regarding the influenza eases on the steamer John, it may bo mentioned that tbo John was only a. ifew hours in Timaru after being eight days under repairs at Dunedin. MASTERTON GASES. ' LARGE NUMBER OF CHILDREN ATTACKED. The number of influenza cases in Masterton continue to increase, writes our correspondent. Yesterday 18 mild cases were reported to the health authorities, three of the patients being removed to the public hospital. There are fifteen influenza patients under treatment in the Masterton Hospital. A largo proportion of the cases of influenza reported in Masterton arc children. REACTIONARY MEASURES. BY EASTBOURNE EMERGENCY COMMITTEE. The Eastbourne Emergency Hospital Committee, which so successfully combated the outbreak of influenza last year, has kept a-watchful eye on the possibility of a recrudescence of the epidemic. .Conferences have been hold during the past week, and a joint meeting has been arranged at which the committee will confer with the Borough Council, in order that co-or-dinate action may ‘bo taken promptly should occasion arise. A large number of cases wore dealt with by the committee at the last outbreak and fortunately no deaths were recorded in the district. Names of volunteer beloors should bo sent to the hon. secretary, Mr C. Hartridge, Muritai, Eastbourne. ;
