NEW TRAM SIDING
NEAR CLYDE QUAY".
On behalf of the City Council, the acting general manager of tramways has written to the Harbour Board asking for permfssion to lay a, tramway siding on the board's land adjacent to Clyde quay. It was pointed out in. the letter, which was read a.z last night's meeting of the board, that the present site is a source of danger to the vehicular. and pedestrian traffic. The board's engineer reported that he had examined the site proposed and had suggested an area in Wakefield street, but as the corporation intended some time in the future to run a double track down this street, this ■was not feasible. The council's request was agreed to, tho lines to be temporary ones and tho agreement to te subject to revocation at any time on three months' notice. The Bite of the new- siding is at the rear of the old Te Aro railway station. It was hoped originally to utilise a portion of the old Te Aro railway station site, but the Railway Department would not agree to tihis. •
