SENIOR CADETS

MILSTARY TOURNAMENT * INTERESTING DISPLAY AT BASIN RESERVE. Thero was a satisfactory attendance at tho military tournament held at the Basin Reserve on Saturday in which the Senior Cadets of No. 5 group (winch includes Wellington Citv and suburbs) participated in interesting competitions. Considerable preliminary details had u-ea attended to by those responsible lor tno management, and the result must uuvo been gratifying, particularly to liieut.-Colonel Sleemaii (director ot inui-l.u-v training), <Jai>tum W. M. Bell (01neer coniiuanuing INO. 5 group;, Captain j L. Macauster, M.C. (secretary),. and Ueut. J. Thomson Ufroup adjutant), These and other officers worked nioat assiduously and achieved distinct suclii the afternoon* a special parade of the cadets was hold and the lads made a response, it being estimated that, close on 2WO cadets were in attendance. Headed by bugle and other bands they marched from Brandon street to the reserve and attracted considerable attention and not a -little praise en route, dome of the companies presented a smart, clean, manly appearuuee, and marched Uke veterans. Rifle Exercises. —Technical College A team; 90 points, 1; Wellington City, BS. points, 2; Wellington South, 87 points. 3. Twelve teams competed. The judge t 1 were woll pleased with tho work of the various squads, und said the first threteams finished very close, together. Signalling Competition, Morse^ —Wellington Technical College 1, Scots College B team 2, Scots College A team 3. Semaphore—Wellington Technical College- A team 1. Lower Hutt A team 2, Lower Hutt B team "3. Tho judges, Captain J. H. Grovor and Lieutenant W. F. Cor noil, expressed their satisfaction at tho quality of the work, the former stating that but a ten points separated the leading teams. Cadets Pillow Fight—Cadet Stedman. Brooklyn. 1-. Cadet Sullivan. Kilbirnie, 2. About fifty lads competed. Physical Drill—Wellington Teohnical College A team, 195 points, 1; Scots College A team. 191 points, 2; Scots College--13 team, 187 points 3. EOeven teams com peted. The judges of this competition were Captain A. W. Brocks, M.C, and Lieutenant T. Stockdill, D.C.M. Tho squads went through seven exercises; anrl displayed an intimate knowledge of the official instructions, a commendable attention to detail, and a general keenness in their work, which was highly praised.
