"NO SHOUTING"
' BREACHES OF THE ACT. Tho authorities are taking action in cases where breaches of tho anti-shout-ing law are discovered. The other day two men, Lewis Fane and Eric Ellison, the lattor just returned from th o Jront, were in a Wellington hotel, when it is alleged one "shouted"' for tho othor, -handing over half-a-crown, the shilling change being placed on tho counter. A change of bar attendants took place in the interval, and thinking the shilling waa for payment of the drinks, insisted on another sixpence being paid. The men objected, an altercation ensued, and the police were called in to adjudicate. This they did by charging the men with breaches of the law. The caso was called on yesterday at the Magistrate's Court, when Sub-In-spector Henderson prosecuted. Mr H. F. O'Loary detailed the above facts to the magistrate (Mr E. Page) and concluded by stating that if the barman's story was true, and the amount (ono shilling) had term merely tendered, no breach of the Act had taken place. The tnf.gistrato mndo .no comment, merely intimating that a fino of 20s would ho inflicted in each case.
