COUNCIL DEFEATS N.S.W. BELL. l ,iv VulesrapJi •• '"i-ui '-..myr'-xu: I SYDNEY, November 7. Tho Legislative Council dofeated the Child Maintenance Bill. Mr Carruthers moved a vital amendment providing that where wages exceeded the Board of Trade's living wage, declaration (£3 17s), tho increases granted by tho court should diminish on a sliding scalq until the amount of £350 yearly is reached. This was carried by 18 votes to 14.
