RETURNING SOLDIERS
THE PAPAROA'S KRAFT. The s.s. Paparoa with returning troops aboard, iirrivbd' at Wellington early yesterday morning, and the passengers disembarked soon after 10 o'clock. She brought out 220 soldiers, 160 wives, 53 children and 85 civilians. Major A. L. Gray was in ohnrge of the troops. Oaptun D. Kennedy, D. 5.0., was adjutant and Captain C J:'Welch Quartermaster. » The Mayor and other citizens met the vessel "and gave the men a- welcome homo. The Paparoa had been just on two months on the journey. Through the Panama Canal zone the usual hospitality was extended to the troops. I'here were a few cases of chicken pox and some of measles aboard. Some complaints were made regarding accommodation, particularly that provided for; the soldiers* wives, who were first of all quartered in the third class, but later moved to the second class. It is said also -that the only doctor aboard was a passenger. The following naval ratings were brought out: —Engineer - Lieutenant Commander E. Brown, R.N., Engin-eer-Lieutenant C. Bone, Second-Officer F. J. Nash, Lieutenant S. It. Mason, Engineer-Sub-Lieutenant 11. F. Back, Chief-Engineer D. Lush, Hngineman ;W. G. Donaldson, Able-Seami.n G. Lsing, Able-Seaman J.
