POLICE CASES RARATONGANS AT A RESTAURANTBefore Mr F. V. Frazer, 5.M.,. yesterday, two ißaratongan soldiers named Punoua Raki and Torn Tcria were charged with having, on tho 17th inst., damaged a pane of glass of tho value of £4, tho property of Thomas Divan. The evidence was to the effect that the accused called at the Bahington restaurant, in Willis street, on Monday afternoon to get a meal. Finding that they could not be served immediately they created a disturbance, and wore put outside. Then the first-mentioned defendant kicked the door and broke apane of glass. The magistrate said that, he was sorry to seo tho accused before the court, as the Raratongans generally had behaved themselves well. The second defendant was discharged; the other .was ordered to. pay, the damage done. A lady who happened to be an court guaranteed payment of the money. Frederick Robert Garlick was charged with the theft of a brief bag and cdh tents, valued at £2, the property of Alfred George Baker. He was sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment, and a- prohibition order was issued against him. For an indecent act in Waring Taylor street, Michael Morrisey was sentenced to a week’s imprisonment. Michael Falvey was charged with being an incorrigible rogue and vagabond, and with having been found by night in a railway truck on the.3rd inst. Ho was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon within twelve months. A prohibition order was made, against him for twelve months. , Henry Harris, for driving a -vehicle hy night without lights in Lambton quay, and Allan Ronald Keane, for leaving a motor-cycle in Ridditord street without lights, were each lined 7s arid costs. ' Albert ■ Henry Schwass, farmer, of Tokomaru, proceeded , against John Rainbow Stansoll, of Maranui, for the! recovery of £143 17s for damage done to, a motor-car on September 30th, 1918, owing to a collision caused by the alleged negligence of the defendant’s servant. A counter-claim was made for £59 Ss. The case was not concluded. Mr, A. W. Blair appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr T. W. Hislop foi'the defendant.
