PLATFORM OF GREATER WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION.

The Greater Wellington Association’s platform for the municipal elections is given below : A town-planning programme to he decided on, and to embrace the following ; Horsing.—Adoption of self-support-ing municipal and Government housing senemes. Encouragement of garden suburb associations. Principle of. detailed dwellings to be Supported. Adequate air space and space between, dwellings. Reduced tram fares for long-distance passengers. Express tram service for distant suburbs. Lift services to. high level residential areas. Progressive tramway extension policy. Town-Planning Act. —To support the placing of a Town-Planning Act during 1919 on tho Statute Book, on lines recommended by the Federated. TownPlanning Association of New Zealand.

Slum Abolition.—Vigorous policy ot slum abolition to proceed as housing schemes eventuate.

City Development Plan.—Demarkation of city as follows: Residential area, (a) central area, (b) outer area. Business area. Industrial area, classified as follows: —Smoke-producing and noxious trades. Non-smoko-producing industries. Industries requiring large area of land. Railway and transport area. Parks and play-grounds. Parks, playgorunds, recreation grounds, and rest places within reach of all parts of the city. Town Belt.—Preparation of plan for the laying-off. Highways, streets, and roads.—(Jonstruotion and lay-off or roads in conformity with modern town-planning ideals.

Progressive hydro-electric power policy. Improvement of city by tree-plant-ing. Resumption of all foreshore at Lyall Bav and elsewhere. The foregoing are the recommendations of tho sub-committee as the platform for tho forthcoming municipal elections, and tho sub-committee recommend that only those candidates bo supported who will subscribe to tho platform.
