HOROWHENUA NOTES
(From Our Own Corresponlent.) v OTAKI, February 17. At the last meeting of the Otaki Patriotic Society it was decided that tho regular monthly collections on behalf of tho society/s funds bo discontinued, but that donations still bo received by the treasurer and collectors. It was pointed out that tho public had lost interest, and that tho riiajority of regular subscribers had discontinued thoir donations. The treasurer (Mr St. George) reported that the collections since last mooting had totalled 266 2s, and collections for Y.M.C.A. 2621 Be. The receipts for tho pa6t two months had exceeded expenditure by <62 10s. Playing on the Otaki bowling green on Saturday A. Smith beat W. Baker, 25 —1/4: Smfith. rilso defeated Bmmjley, 2j—l4; Petrie defeated Mitchell, 23—12. Orchard-robbing is prevalent in this district, and the police have been asked to keep an eye open for offenders with n view of taking action. Mr and Mrs Bradlev leave Otaki early nest month for Wellington, whore they will take up their temporary residence before leaving for Australia.
