It is pleasing (stated the Finance Minister in his Budget speech) to record the fact that there has heen very little unemployment during the past year: on the contrary, in near’ly every trade the difficulty has heen to obtain sufficient suitable labour.

Mr Hugh Remington, only son of Mrs H. Remington, lUastertou, died at the Otaki Hospital on Sunday. The deceased was taken to the institution suffering from pneumonia. The late Mr Remington, who was thirty-six years of age, was for a number. of years employed by Mr J. C. Ewington. He leaves a wife, who is at present in the Otaki Hospital suffering from influenza, and four young children.

The Public Works Denartment invites tenders up to December 6th for tho erection of the Tiraumoa Post Office.

The banks will bo closed on Saturday, St. Andrew's Day; also solicitors’ offices.

The Fibsherbert. terrace school will not reopen until the first, week in February.
