ARMISTICE TERMS

MUST BE STRICTLY ENFORCED.

STATEMENT BY THE PRIME

MINISTER.

The Prime Minister,, in an interview recently with the local representative of tho London “Times,” made the foL lowing statement: “I trust that the terms-pf the armistice with Germany will 'be strictly enforced. We cannot afford to take any risks with an enemy so unscrupulous as Germany has proved herself during the last four years. . Germans should be devoutly thankful that the Allies . have not carried the >var into Germany as the Germans carried the war into France and -Belgium, and as the Huns would have carried-, it into British countries if they had got the opportunity. “As for indemnities, I do not know of what Germany is financially capable, but so long as, Germany is able Jo pay for tlie injuries she has inflicted, then Germany should be made to pay. Anything less will not be just to those who have suffered injury, or to those whom they have left behind. There must be adequate reparation as far as it is possible to obtain it. “Kegarding the Kaiser and those immediately associated with. him, apart altogether from what is considered legitimate in war, they an guilty of crimes without number, not tho least of which is their inhuman treatment of British prisoners, and should be compelled to suffer the consequences of their actions. Commonjustice demands that the crimes and*, iniquities for which they have been responsible should not bo allowed to go unpunished.”
