DORSET TO LOAD. Tho F. and S. liner Dorset left Sydney on Sunday night for Port Chalmers and Wellington for loading. The Ngakuta, coal-laden, from Greymouth. berthed at 11 o'clock yesterday morning, but owing to a dearth of labour was u.Tuable to commence disclhairging operations. Part of the coal is for the railways and the remainder for hulks. , The Ngatoro resumed discharge of her cargo of produce from Lyttelton at Wellington yesterday, and fairly good progress was made. The (principal trouble was the prevailing congestion of cargo in the wharf sheds, and there are not sufficient carts availablo to Telieve the congestion. An endeavour will be made to despatch tho Ngatoro to-morrow night for Greymouth. A telegram from New Plymouth reports that the Ngahere was discharging cement from Limestone Island, and general cargo from Wellington, at the- Taranaki port yesterday morning. ADMIRAL FOR PICTON. Wright, Stephenson and Co. a&rfcv that they will despatch tho .steameir Admiral to-day, at 3 p.m., from Wellington, with general cargo for Picton. No passengers will be taken. The vessel is due at Wellington this morning on a special trip from Picton with butter and fish. REDUCED HOME FREIGHTS. A number of Auckland merchants havo received advices fro'ni London by cable that freights on cargoes from the Homeland have been reduced from J3lO to .£7 10s all round. As with the old charge there will still be the addition of 10 per cent, primage. The information is received with satisfaction. The reduction is taken to be due to the fall in the prices of war risks, together with the fact that more shipping has been immediately released to resume routine trade. It is presumed that tho freight for cargoes going Home will be correspondingly reduced, although not yet notified. OPIHI FROM VANCOUVER. Among the expected arrivals at Wellington next month is Reese Bros.' steamer Opihi (ex-converted barque Libia), which is believed to have left Vancouver on the 16th inst. She is cargoladen for both Wellington and Lyttelton, and will call first at this port, whero she is due about December loth. McArthur, Jeffries and Co. are the local agents. WORK AT THE SLIP. The 'Government training ship Amokura and tho Blenheim are to he brought off the slip this afternoon. The Pateena will be taken up on the cradle to-morrow morning, and is to be relaunched on Saturday. REMUERA FOR LOADING. Tho Remuera is duo at Wellington at tho end of this week from Timaru to complete her Homeward loading. Tho vessol will leave here about the middle of next week for London via Panama. MONOWAI AS FERRY BOAT. The Union Co. advise that the Monowai will not proceed to Dunedin this week as was intended, but will sail today for Lyttelton, taking soldiers only. The vessel is due back here on Friday morning in the "ferry" run, and will remain in that service in the meanwhile. ATUA OMITS AUCKLAND, Advico received from Sydney states that tho crew of tho Union Company's steamer Atua, which recently left Auckland for Sydney, havo agreed l to sail for the Islands, providing the New Zealand call is abandoned. This means that the Atua will sail direct for Fiji, and will not call at Auckand. Apart from the

trouble passengers are experiencing, the epidemic is playing havoc with the mail service. The Fiona, which arrived at Auckland on Saturday morning, brought an Australian mail, but there seems every possibility of a long wait before another mail arrives. j PAPAROA LOADS HEBE.
