An uncommonly Tough passage from Sydnev was experienced by the Riverina, which arrived at' Wellington last evening. The vessel left Sydney at 4.30 p.m. on Thursday in fine warm weather, but at 9 o'clock in the evening a strong southerly gnle was encountered with mountainous seas and. passing squalls. She is to eaal fojr Greymouth to-night. . THE NGAKUTA. The Ngakuta did not get in to Greymouth until 10 p.m on Sunday from Wellington. The vessel was expectod to sail at 9 o'clock Jast night -wito a full load of coal for Wellington, where she is due to-morrow morning. After discharging her cargo, which is for bunkering the Ngakuta will sail for Greymouth on Friday or Saturday. PHILIPPINE FROM 'FRISCO. The American four-mastor schooner Philippine, 491 tons, Captain Fredricksen, arrived off the Wellington heads early on Sunday morning alter a fine run of 5a days from San Fransico. In response to signals for a pilot the tug Karaka went out and placed Captain Spence aboard. The schooner then sailed up to the stream without a, tow 'Yesterday, at 11 a.m. the Philippine .berthed at Clyde quay to discharge 16,000 cases of oil, and 300.000 ft of Oregon timber. The agents are A. S. Paterson and Co. The schooner had an uneventful fine trip till she met with the usual rough weather off the New Zealand coast. Cape Palhser was abeam last Wednesday, but unfavourable winds then delayed progress. OaWtaAn Fredericksen has -been ■in command of the Philippine ever since fbe "was built eighteen years ago.
