Thero is in Dunedin a Damascus coin said to be 3240 years old (reports the ‘.‘Star”). It is a silver tetradrachm of tho period of Alexander the Great, who reigned from 336 to 333 B.C. This rare coin belongs to a resident of Dunedin, who. interested in tho current talk about Damascus, thought it would bo fitting to lot the people see a specimen of ancient Damascus work, and therefore put it on exhibition for a few days. The coin is in first-class condition. the relief work ns hold and perfect as on one that has boon only a little used. On one side is the head of young Hercules, the features resembling Alexander’s, a lion’s skin round the body. Tho other side carries the figure of Alexander seated and holding a sceptre. Tho mark of the maker is sharply defined on the coin. Its diameter is a littlo larger than a shilling, and it thickens in the centre.
