HOROWHENUA NOTES
From Our Own Correspondent. OTAKI, Thursday. An inquiry into the fire which destroyed the Foxton State School will be held on October 9th. At the recent Otaki Town Board election only 223 electors out of 461 on the rool voted. The highest number of votes ■cast for an indiviudal candidate vas 170. The Otaki Bowling- Club has decided to open the season on October 12th. The grounds are looking well, and a successful season is anticipated. The funeral took place at Levin yesterday of Mrs Akenson, a well-known resident. A farewell "social” was accorded last night to a number of Otaki nien who shortly enter camp. Each received a presentation, and was wished God speed and a safe return. The Otaki Bowling Club has made arrangements to play Karori on November 13th, Newtown on November 2Sth, Lyall Bay on December 7th, a return v ith Karori on December 11th, Johnsonville December 26th, Hataitai on January 22nd, a return with Lyall Bay on February Ist, and Newtown on March Bth'. Matches with Wellington an dtho Jfutt Clubs will be arranged later.
