PARI PASSU
(To the Editor, “N.Z. Times. 1 * Sir, —All’ihings“beiinr'equal, I fail to see the logic of the Citv Council’s attitude towards the claim of the tram men for increased pay. In vour report this morning I notice 3297,540 referred to as 323 per cent, rise on .£73,724. How is that worked out? Previously it had been claimed that eight hours a day had to be worked to win X2 14s a week. The pay hither than that was gained by working overtime. The council propose to give drivers in the milk business 323 10s per week for five hours a day. They, also paid away .£7oo' last year, to a. man with no known qualifications, and they are now disbursing riftlie rate'of .£SOO a year for a similar quota of qualification. (All the same, they cannot find the 3212,000 required. Had they not better take their beak out of the sand, end have a look around at the wide world they thought they were running away from, and put a measure' of equality into their methos of management?—l am. etc., 0 , , . HENRY BODLEY.. September 23rd, 1918.
