40,000 TURKS CAPTURED ENEMY’S POSITION CRITICAL By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. NEW YORK, September 25. Over forty thousand Turks have already been captured in Palestine, besides two- hundred and sixty-five guns. (Received September 26, 8.50 p.m.) LONDON, September 25. It is understood that the 265 guns captured represents practically the whole of the artillery of the two Turkish armies. Turks oast of the Jordan are now cut in two sections, both being cut off from the base at Damascus. The Turkish centre neat Maan is threatened by the British advance on - Amman. The ‘ position is critical. TURKS HARD-PRESSED BY ARABS. Aus, and N.Z. Cable Assn, and Eeuter. (Received, September 26, 9.55 p.m.) LONDON, September 25. ■ A Palestine official message frori East Jordan states: We are approaching Amman, north of which the Arabs have effected important demolitions ot the railway. Other Arabs are pressing the enemy, who i s retiring northwards from Maan.
