RANO MINING
INDUSTRY IN SERIOUS POSITION. Reuter’s Telegrams. (Received September 24, 7.20 p.m.) JOHANNESBURG, September 23. The president of tho Chamber of Mines referred to the serious position of the Transvaal gold industry. Ho stated that of forty-nine contributing mines six were working at an actual loss, fifteen at a small profit, which, however, standing charges turned into a loss. Under existing conditions the end was very near. It would bo a pity if the closing of some of the mines was required to bring home the real position.
