SEVERAL CANDIDATES AN* NOUNCED. Tlie notice of the vacancy of the Wei* lington Central seat, it is expected, will be gazetted to-day. The procedure then followed is that the • Speaker of me-House of Representatives (Sir F. W. Lang) sends' authorising the Clerk of Writs to issue a' writ for the tilling of the vacancy. The writ must be issued “forthwith,” states the Act; and in practice, the writ (returnable .within 28 days from the date of issue) is issued a day or so after the receipt of the warrant.

At a special meeting,of the Wellington -Social Democratic Party, held last 1 night, at the new Trades Hall, Mr P. Fraser was unanimously nominated for selection in the L.R.C. ballot for a candidate to contest Wellington Central on behalf of Labour.

The new Trade.; Hall, Vivian street, will be the Central Committee room of tho Wellington Labour Representation Committee, who will enter the Wellington Central by-election in the interests of Labour.
