FIRE AT WHAKATANE
Press Association. . WHAKATANE, July 19. v A fire yesterday gutted two shops in a Main street block* —those, of J. Clarke’s (watchmaker) and Wong Lee Company (laundry and fruiterer). The brigade, and a brick partition wall, prevented the spread of the fire through tho block, which included tho Post Office adjoining. Tho insurances aro: On building £7OO in the South British office; Clarke’s stock £7OO in the Alliance and £176 in tho Standard.
