FOR THE NAVY. A. meeting was held yesterday afternoon in the Town Hall to make arrangements for a balloon and flower day to assist the Navy League funds. Mrs J. Darling, who convened the meeting, occupied the chair, and among those vho attended were:—Mesdames Hall-Thomp-son. Harding, H. and K. (.Kirkcaldie, Ghennells, von Haast, Martin, Luke, A. H. Waters, Lever, C. Barle, Watkins, Hamilton, O'Sullivan, Gamble, Mackin, W. Stewart, Robinson, Gorton, and Wilson, Miss Edivin and Miss Rothenberg. Mrs J2arle announced that Mrs W. F. Mrs Darling outlined what had been done. An offer had been received from Mr Jacobsen, through Mrs Martin, to give a number of balloons for sale for the Navy League, and she offered to nipply a room, string, and a machine for blowing up balloons, and wouiu aiso tailback- all balloons not used. A small committee, really the nucleus of the Navy League bottle committee, had accepted the offer, and as the weather was tain it had been proposed to sell flower* also. The Keel Cross had been approached and asked if it was intended to hold a violet day. As no definite answer could' be obtained it had been decided to bo ahead with tho sale, and July 26th was fixed upon, and a permit secured ior that day, tho town clerk having said tnere was no other largo appeal near that dtte. No further action had been taken so up not to interfere with the Frenoh. appeal day! When the Red Cross had advertised holding a violet day, Mrs Damn; said her committee approached that society with a view-to holding a largo combined effort, rather than two days in such close proximity. The Red Cross, however, could not see their way to join forces* and therefore the Navy League must go ahead with the day granted them. The committee had worked quietly and had received much encouragement and many promises of help. The appeal she felt sure would receive a great deal of support since this was the only organisation working directly for men of the navy. The Public Works Department would again ' supply the stalls, and the D.I.C. would decorate them, while Kirkcaldie and Stains were decorating one of their windows appropriately for the following week. Captain Munro had granted the use of a shed on the wharf, and Messrs Harcourt and Co. had gives.' their auction room as a depot on July 25th and 26th. All flowers would"*be carried free if addressed to Navy League Gift Goods, Harcourt's Buildings.
