WINNING THE WAR IN WELLINGTON

To the Editor "N.Z. Times."

Sir,—Being in Wellington la6t week on business on an annual visit I was unfortunate enough to make a break baeli to the turnips last Wednesday! Being' a bit of a hayseed myself I thought 'iv wise to study the railway advertisement re trains on the Wairarapa lino, as 1 was returning via that district. Got the whole thing off like a.book, and started for the station, intending to go np by the 1.20 p.m. train to the Upper Hutt,. transact some business tl :re and oatch the Wairarapa train as far as Masterton. On arriving at Lambton I struck a surging mob struggling to get tickets, -mostly, for the races. I battled along, with a very beery voice alongside ibf confiding "Goin' see Mustroun / win," to the tiokot window, asked for a Masterton ticket, and was told "not issuing post Lower Hutt." Still there seemed to be a lot of suburban residents there getting tickets, and when I dropped down iutu the game the bell went. Now, what 1 would like to know, Mr Editor, is if there are to be mces why don't they have trains? I like a race meeting mj self, but for various reasons don't go now, as the week is too short for mo as it now stands, but when the Governmeni let it interfere with business why don't they scrap their Efficiency Boards, tio.'t I know I will take eood care not to hit Wellington when there is another gathering of the sports.—l am, etc., "TUENIPS." Maßterton.
