FIXTURES: June 21 and 22—Napier B.C. Wintor. June 28 and 23—Hawke's Bay B.C. WinJulv 10 and 13—Wellington E.C. Winter. July 25—South Canterbury Hunt SteerJechaso.

NOTES AND COMMENTS

(By "Tohunga.")

Art has been doing good work at Napier, and is one of the fancies for tlje hurdles there.

Brambletye and Adjutant are to be the Chokebore representatives •at the Wellington meeting. Boie, who is still feeling; the effects of the Auckland campaign, will hot bo seen on the course until the Grand National meeting.

The annual meeting of the New Zealand Country Racing Clubs' Association is to be held at the Town Hall on July 9th. Amongst tho matters to be considered are the following:—To consider the advisability of foiniing executives in each metropolitan district.by each club appointing a delegate thereon; the delegates to meet from time to time and attend generally to local matters; and consideration of remits and any ibusiness in the interest of country racing clubs that the meeting may deem advisable. Lingerie has gone into F. Tilley's stable at FoTdell.

Charley will probably bo the only representative of F. D. Jones's stable at the Wellington meeting. Sleight of Hand figures amongst' the nominees for the Wellington meeting, but he has been withdrawn from itae Napier fixture. If he were not forward enough it -would seem that a gallop or two with the colours up would do him good. Maybe he is off colour.

The list of entries received by the Canterbury Jookey Club for future class races shows a big inorease on.those of last season. Nearly .every stable of importance throughout the Dominion id represented, and on the score of breeding the juveniles compare very favourably with those of previous years.

Master Timi will have to iput up a 6tone penalty in the Napier Steeplechase as a result of his two wins at Gisborne. Thanks to the exertions of Cathedral Chimes, who won .£2130 in stake money, J. Bryce comes out on top in the list of winning owners fox the ©resent season, with the fine total of .£2185.', Other owners well up the list are:—M. Edwards T. Kao £1425, Hall and Doherty .£llOs, J. R. Corrigan .£873, W. H. Norton .£863, and G. Edgar.

Since racing at the Canterbury Park meeting Our Thorpe has not done much work, but he is to be got ready for the August meeting. His trainer, A. Fleming, has also taken Hardy Wilkes up again, and hopes to have the Australianbred trotter ready for tho Addington fixture.

Commenting on the entries received for '-tSs Australian spring eVents, a Sydney writer says:—'lt Is pleasing to note that New Zealand stables are represented, and the fact that Flnmark and Estland axe entered seems to guarantee that not only will MrjT, H. Lowry'a colours be seen at Randwick in the spring, but that Desert Gold, according to promise, will be among the competitors. But those named by no means comprise all the stars engaged. Biiplane figures in both lists, and Sydney racegoers will be pleased to renew acquaintance with him, i Jhoufgh he may not be seen, in opposition to Desert Gold. _ -•• —-'■."-*"*«*

"-t»An indication of 'the growing •popularity of.racing can bo gleaned from the fact that an isolated .fixture like Gisborne can put through the machine ,£29,739, an increase of over .£4OOO 6n last yearns meeting. ■

Mr M. Hannan will xopxesent tho Greymouth Jookey Club at the Racing Conference next month.

The death is announced of Mick .Ambrose, one time head lad in J. W. Lowe's stable. '
