£From Our Own Correspondent.) MABTEETON". June 14. Mr A. H.. Ahrons has tendarod liß resignation aa to the iMastorton County Council. The iunorui of tho lato Mr Pryipr Gilbert took place yesterday afternoon, deceased being buried with inilitarv honours. The Masterton Silver Band headed tho oortege. which was a large one and included representatives of the various local institutions' to which deceased had belonged. At eight o'clock last night a six-room-ed house in Lincoln road. Carterton, was burnod down. Tho house was owned by Mr J. O'Reilly, a-nd occupied by Mr Btrawbridgo, senior. Tho Masterton Friendly Societies' Council last night passed the following resolution :—That this council supports the action of tho various Friondly Societies' Councils, and the executive officers in their efforts towards urging the Government to assist the lodges financially during tho present crisis, as the council views with alarm tho increasing liability caused through keeping, members, who are on active service, financial.
