EIEPORTS of committees.

The regular meeting of the City Council -was held last evening and was attended bv the Mayor (Mr .T. P. Luke, C.M.G.). Councillors Bashar, Frost, Godber. Bennett. Atkinson, Veitch, McKenzie, Luokie, Shorland, Norwood, Thompson, Caecia Wright and Fitzgerald. FINANCE. The finance committee recommended That the application of the Wellington Brum Hand for financial assistance in the formation of theiV band bo nob acceded, to. That the firm of solicitors who asked that the council should vary its previous offer for certain land taken under the Public "Works Act at Waimri-o-mata for waterworks purposes he informed that the council cannot sco its way to accede to the request. The committee reported that it had authorised negotiations for tho acquisition of a, small piece of land, at tho corner of Tory and Vivian streets, owned by the Wellington College Governors.—The report was adopted. BATHS AND BEACHES, The baths and beaches committee repommended:—That a.n applicant for permission to erect a boataned on the "West Beach, Island Bay, bo informodthat in view of the scheme being prepared by the Government to assist tho fishing industry at Island' Bay it will be impossible for consent to bo granted for the erection of the shed at the present time. That the Island Bay Municipal doctors' Association be informed in reply to its letter regarding accommodation at Island Bay for women and girl bathers, that the citv engineer is reporting on the probable cost of .erecting extra shelters for young girls and generally on the question of accommodation for bathers at this beach; and also that tho association bo informed that the matter of removing tho -sand drift adjacent to the girls' enclosure is being referred to tho city engineer, with a request that his staff in the district keep the sand clear from this point as much as possible, but that tho council is of opinion that tho association should also assist in this direction when ’ necessary.—The report was adopted. BY-LAWS. The by-laws committee recommended— That an application of Kodak (Australasia), Limited, for permission to erect three signs on the fascia board of tho firm's verandah on the corner of Willis street and Customhouse quay should be granted, subject to the condition that only that portion of the fascia of the verandah below the gutter and tho under edge of tlio fascia be used for advertisements. That a monthly permit to drive a taxicab should bo granted to an applicant, although his license had been previously dealt with for unsatisfactory conduct. That two taxicab drivers, reported for overcharging passengers, should ho called upon to refund the overcharges, and informed that if similar happenings aro reported in future, their licenses will be endangered. That the Northland Municipal Electors,’ Association bo informed in reference to the resolution passed by its executive asking tho council to frame legislation requiring tho survey of property before transfers can be completed, that in the opinion of tho council the individual purchasing land is responsible, and that it cannot see its way to take any action in tho matter. —The report was adopted. OUTLYING DISTRICTS.

The outlying districts committee recommended : —That an application for permission to enclolo a portion of the unformed road reserve at Stanley, street, Berhampore, be not entertained, in view of tho fact that tho road bank will require to bo cut back shortly. That the council refuse to grant permission to a property owner to enclose a ijortiou of Che unformed road reserve at the corner of Freeling and Edent streets. Island Bay. That two property owners at Hohiria road, Hataitai, be given notice that the council cannot permit their fences to encroach on the public road, and that

they be called upon to set same back forthwith. That authority bo granted for a new handrail to, bo Greeted at an approach, to three sections at Upland juui, at a small cost. That the Vopeltowu Electors* Association bo informed that its request for hotter access from Borings street to - Clarence' street" win have to stand over in view of otner. .contemplated alterations and improvements in the matter of access to the district. That tho Vogeltown Electors' Association bo informed in. replv to its complaint as to tho bad condition of tho track between Salisbury and Connaught terraces, that until the removal of the clay and the formation work is completed by the contractor, the track cannot be maintained satisfactorily; but that efforts will bo made ,to keep tho same passable. . That the. ..y.ogeltown. Electors' Association's request for. house numbering at Vogeltown And Mornington be not agreed to in,'view of the fact that the street alignments Kaye, not been, definitely fixed,, and also in view of the scattered nature, of the. houses in these suburbs. That petitioners for the construction of the formation of Melbourne road. Island Bay, between. Avon and Thames streets, sufficient for vehicular access, be informed that the question of improvements to this street will come up for consideration in January next, when other works, already authorised, arc completed.
