BIG DECREASE IN AREA. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright SYDNEY, October 10. An official estimate shows that tho area under wheat in the State is 3,512,500 acres, a decrease of 697,692 acres as compared with. l last year. The principal reasons for the doorcase are the shortage of labour and .the higher prices ruling for sheep and- wool, which are causing many fanners to abandon wheat for eheop. A densely-populated area of 20,000 square mites has become an immense lake. There is a likelihood of Tientsin becoming icebound and uninhabitable, and tbo removal of the capital from Fokin may become necessary owing to the instability of its communications.
