The month of July was an eventful one for the Social Service Department of the New Zealand Y.M.C-A. in London, as in addition to the average number of men on leave from Prance 1800 men arrived in the city in one draft from Sling. They came at a day s notice, having been sent for from Prance. BcAdes mating the usual arrangements for showine the men round the city, some _in open brakes and others on foot with honorary guides, the Association organa cnoninl l< \pw Zealand night" at ised a special ‘‘New Zealand night" at Giro's, the fashionable night club recently taken over I# the, Y.M.C.A. and run os a place of entertainment for soldiers and their ladv friends. The venture proved most successful, and was to he repeated when the next New Zealand draft came to London. Miss Eosina Bookman, the New Zealand prima donna. who has been appearing as the leading star in grand opera in London, has promised to sing to the Now Zealand soldiers at Giro’s. During July large numbers of our troops were provided with free setas at places of amusement, an dwhile the biff draft from Sling was in the city twenty-five men were taken to grand opera each evening.
