An exchange tells the following story:—A young French ' officer, who was attached to General Joffre’s staff during a visit of the French mission to ■Washington, was asked by a pretty American girl if he had killed a German soldier. When he admitted that ho had, she asked him with which hand he had done the deed, and on his replying “With this right hand,” the pretty American girl seized the han3 and kissed it. “My dear man,” said the young lieutenant’s colonel, “why on earth didn’t you tell her that you bit him to death?”
